Renowned Legal Scholar Leads MERCURY Project
Groundbreaking Research to Study Human Rights and Private Security
COPENHAGEN, DENMARK - Dr Sorcha MacLeod, an esteemed Associate Professor at the University of Copenhagen's Faculty of Law, has embarked on a groundbreaking research project that will delve into the complex intersection of human rights and private security.
As the Principal Investigator of the MERCURY project, Dr MacLeod will lead a team of researchers in exploring the human rights impacts and regulation of Private Military and Security Companies (PMSCs). These companies play a significant role in global security, operating in conflict zones and providing services to governments and corporations.
Dr MacLeod's research will focus on the human rights obligations of PMSCs, including their responsibilities to respect human rights, prevent human rights abuses, and provide remedies for victims of human rights violations. The project will also examine the existing regulatory framework for PMSCs and assess its effectiveness in ensuring accountability and human rights protection.
Through her research, Dr MacLeod aims to contribute to a better understanding of the complex issues surrounding PMSCs and human rights. Her findings will inform policy development, enhance the regulation of PMSCs, and ultimately promote greater accountability and human rights protection in this critical area.
