New York City pauses today, 23 years after the tragic events of September 11th, 2001, to commemorate the lives lost and honor the heroes who responded to the terror attacks that forever altered the nation.
At 8:46 a.m., the first moment the North Tower of the World Trade Center was struck by American Airlines Flight 11, the city will hold a moment of silence at the 9/11 Memorial & Museum. The tolling of bells will mark each moment of the attacks, followed by a reading of the victims' names.
The ceremony will be attended by survivors, family members, first responders, and elected officials, including President Joe Biden and former President Barack Obama. They will gather to pay tribute to the nearly 3,000 victims who lost their lives that day and to honor the resilience of the city and nation that was tested on that fateful morning.
A Day of Remembrance and Reflection
