Marked by an intermittent audio signal, the speed of the runs increases incrementally at different stages, making the test progressively challenging until exhaustion.
The beep test has gained popularity as a means of assessing cardiovascular fitness levels in various settings, including sporting clubs, schools, and the military. It is administered in many ways, but the general protocol remains relatively straightforward: participants start by running back and forth between the two markers at an initial low speed. As the test progresses, the speed of these intervals increases gradually, signaled by the specific audio cues. The constant increase in intensity forces participants to work progressively harder until they reach their limit and are no longer able to keep up with the required pace. The level achieved before reaching exhaustion is used to determine the individual's overall aerobic fitness.
