Ronnie O'Sullivan Wins Record-Extending Eighth Masters Title
O'Sullivan Beats Carter 10-7 in Final
Ronnie O'Sullivan clinched a record-extending eighth Masters title on Sunday, beating Ali Carter 10-7 in the final at Alexandra Palace. The victory moved O'Sullivan one clear of Stephen Hendry's previous record of seven Masters titles.
O'Sullivan Dominates Final
O'Sullivan dominated the final from the start, taking a 4-1 lead in the first session. He extended his advantage to 6-2 after the second session and never looked back, eventually sealing the victory in the 17th frame.
Carter, who was playing in his first Masters final, fought back bravely but was unable to match O'Sullivan's class. O'Sullivan's victory was his 39th ranking title, moving him closer to Hendry's all-time record of 36.
O'Sullivan Praises Carter
After the match, O'Sullivan praised Carter's performance and said he was "honored" to have played against him in the final.
"Ali played fantastically well," O'Sullivan said. "He's a great player and I'm sure he'll be back in the final again soon."
Carter said he was "disappointed" to lose but praised O'Sullivan's performance.
"Ronnie played incredibly well today," Carter said. "He's the best player in the world and I'm proud to have played against him in the final."
O'Sullivan's Eighth Masters Title
O'Sullivan's eighth Masters title is a testament to his longevity and continued dominance of the sport. He has now won the Masters in three different decades, and he shows no signs of slowing down.
The victory will also give O'Sullivan a boost as he heads into the World Snooker Championship in April. O'Sullivan is the defending champion and will be looking to win his sixth world title.
