Arsenal U19s kicked off their UEFA Youth League campaign with a narrow 2-1 defeat against PSV Eindhoven U19s at Meadow Park on Wednesday afternoon.
The hosts took the lead in the first half through a well-taken goal from Folarin Balogun. However, PSV Eindhoven equalized just before the break with a goal from Noni Madueke.
The Dutch side completed the comeback in the second half with a goal from Johan Bakayoko. Arsenal U19s pushed for a late equalizer, but they were unable to find a way through.
Reaction
"It was a tough game today," said Arsenal U19s coach Steve Bould. "We started well and took the lead, but PSV Eindhoven are a good side and they came back at us."
"We're disappointed not to get anything from the game, but we'll learn from our mistakes and come back stronger in the next match."
Arsenal U19s will be back in action on Wednesday, October 2, when they travel to face Barcelona U19s in their second UEFA Youth League group match.
